After a successful summer for our adolescent program, Pure Life is now accepting applications for all gender applicants ages 15-17 for a new adolescent group. This year’s program will open on December 1st and will continue serving students through the summer of 2024.
Outdoor treatment in the winter is often not an obvious choice but Pure Life Adventure is at an advantage because our Costa Rican location allows us to offer outdoor treatment for adolescents in a warm climate at a time of year when they may not choose to attend otherwise.
“We’re having fun, learning new things, and working on how to address difficult issues, all in one of the most beautiful places in the world. We love sharing this experience with our clients and their families,” says Andrew Taylor, Executive Director and owner.
Adolescents at Pure Life are typically facing challenges associated with
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Substance use and abuse
- Screen and game overuse
- Executive functioning deficits / Learning differences
- Social challenges and isolation
- Refusal or disengagement from school
- Low motivation
- Entitlement
- Attachment & adoption issues
- Body image issues
- Trauma
“We are seeing more and more adolescents struggling with or simply refusing to do school work or function well in their day-to-day life,” said Allan Capp, Program Director and owner. He says, “Pure Life continues to be able to offer core high school credits for that adolescent who may need just a few more credits to graduate or needs help emotionally but doesn’t want to fall behind.”
Pure Life strongly focuses on life skills and executive functioning therapies for our adolescents. Through adventure activities, culturally immersive experiences in Costa Rica, leadership development opportunities, and the learning of healthy habits, Pure Life adolescents gain self-confidence and can take on more responsibility in their own lives.
“Because we require our students to come willingly, we can offer a high-functioning environment that parents can feel comfortable with,” says Mara Mueller, Clinical Director and owner. Pure Life is working hard to provide a different type of outdoor treatment option to adolescents where they can feel more empowered and a part of the process.
Pure Life Adventure uses research-based techniques with integrated therapeutic models throughout its adventure therapy program. Pure Life’s adventure therapy program, based in Costa Rica, works with struggling adolescents and young adults to build self-efficacy, teach healthy coping strategies, behavioral and emotional regulation, leadership skills, and life skills that will allow participants to become independent, productive, and successful adults.
