Pure Life is excited to announce Helen McGuire, LCSW, as a Primary Therapist!

“Helen is an ideal team member as she already knows our model and approach.  Coming from Ireland and having traveled and worked abroad as a young adult, she brings international experience that is so unique to our programming and company culture.  We are beyond grateful to have Helen’s clinical talent supporting our therapeutic gap program.”

– Andrew Taylor, Founder + Executive Director

A native of Ireland, Helen received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Limerick. She later went on to pursue a Masters degree in Social Work from the National University of Ireland, Galway.

As a clinical social worker, Helen continued to develop her international experience in therapeutic settings such as India, France, and Utah.  She has worked with adolescents and young adults through individual and group interventions.

Helen’s areas of clinical focus include:
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • identity
  • executive functioning deficits
  • autism spectrum disorders

Her clinical approach includes cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, skill building, and collaborative problem-solving.

“Helen will bring a tremendous amount of clinical expertise to the Pure Life program.  From her years of experience working with young adults, I am enthusiastic about the opportunity for Helen’s transition to Pure Life in Costa Rica.  She fully understands the challenges young adults are facing in our society today and exudes a skill set that can guide them to solutions.”

– Josh Watson

Helen’s love for the outdoors first attracted her to working with Adventure Therapy in Utah. Through this work, she appreciated the depth of personal growth that young people gained from adventure therapy and their time in a novel environment.  As Primary Therapist for Pure Life’s therapeutic gap program, Helen will be taking our young adults to the next level of independence and personal growth. Her clinical talents will also support Pure Life’s Adventure Therapy groups.

Pure Life offers young adult programs for males and females ages 18 to 28. Operating in the beautiful Central Pacific Region of Costa Rica, our team is able to support an individual through cognitive-behavioral therapy, therapeutic adventure, and cultural immersion.

Pure Life Adventure Therapy is a program that combines elements of adventure-based activities with group and individual therapy. At Pure Life, we’ve taken adventure therapy, applied the Model of Change combined with Cultural Immersion.  The latest research and data are used to refine our 50 to 120-day treatment program.

Pure Life’s Therapeutic Gap Program, is the next step for the development of independence for young adults. A therapeutic gap experience creates powerful life experiences that stimulate personal development through therapeutic insights, language learning, cross-cultural interaction, teamwork, and adventure.  These challenging educational opportunities help our graduates thrive as individuals and as members of their chosen communities.
